My Philips TV makes a short clicking noise at around 5 o'clock in the morning. Is this normal?

Published on 2019-09-10

The clicking sound is only heard when your TV is switched to standby mode.

It will not work if the TV is switched off with the power button on the TV side control or during normal viewing.

This is to indicate that your TV is coming out of standby to perform the automatic channel updates of new channel(s) to your TV memory that was not available earlier. This is normal behavior.

The update will always occur around 5 o'clock daily.

If you do not wish to update your TV channels automatically, you can set the CHANNEL UPDATE IN STANDBY feature in the TV MENU > INSTALLATION > CHANNEL INSTALLATION > CHANNEL UPDATE IN STANDBY to OFF.

  • If your TV does not have the CHANNEL UPDATE IN STANDBY feature in the TV menu, update the TV software to software version 64.79.0 (or higher).
  • You can find the latest Firmware Upgrade Software and Readme File documents on the Philips support website. Refer to the SOFTWARE & DRIVERS section.
