What is Bluetooth Pairing & Connecting ?

Published on 2017-08-24

Most Bluetooth devices have to be “paired” before they can communicate with each other. This pairing has to be done only once (unless the pairing is deleted or overwritten in one of the two devices). During pairing the two devices share a secret “pass key.” For Philips Bluetooth headsets the pass key is “0000“. To initiate pairing most Bluetooth headsets will have to enter a special pairing mode (see the headset's user guide). While the headset is in pairing mode, initiate a search for the Bluetooth headset in the cell phone's Bluetooth/connectivity menu. You should see the headset's type number in the phone's menu. Select it and then enter the pass key (4 zeros). With some phones, you will have to connect the headset in a separate step after pairing before you can use it. Some cell phones connect the device automatically after pairing with the headset, or will ask you if you want the headset to connect to the phone automatically when you turn the headset on in the future. Equipped with Easy Pairing, the Philips SHB6110, SHB7110 and SHB9000 are automatically in pairing mode after they are taken out of the sales box and turned on, or whenever they are turned on and cannot connect to any previously paired device. Once the two devices (e.g. headset and cell phone) have been “paired“, this process does not have to be repeated. However the headset and the phone have to re-connect after one of the two has been turned off or gone out of range. Depending on the phone settings and Bluetooth headset this may require a confirmation on the phone and a button press on the headset. Refer to the user guide of your cell phone.
