Enhancing diagnostics and patient care with the first Spectral CT in the Philippines

  • The IQon is the world's first and only detector-based spectral computed tomography (CT)
  • This is now also installed, for the first time in the Philippines, in Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital

MANILA, PHILIPPINES,  Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) – Philips, a leading health technology company, recently installed the Philips IQon Spectral CT with Ambient Experience in Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital. The IQon is the world’s first and only detector-based spectral CT.

The IQon Spectral CT delivers multiple layers of retrospective data in a single, low-dose scan. Fully integrated with current workflow, this proprietary approach to CT delivers extraordinary diagnostic quality, empowering hospitals to improve clinical confidence and make the right diagnosis in the first scan.

By delivering spectral results 100% of the time in a single scan, the Philips IQon Spectral CT reduces time and costs by decreasing the number of patient findings that are indeterminate, providing the opportunity to positively impact patient care. It also reduces the need for additional tests through the ability to create angiograms from routine or low injected contrast volume studies.

This advanced CT has been installed in combination with Philips’ Ambient Experience, an approach to clinical environment design that aims to help facilitate reduced patient stress, increased staff satisfaction and improved workflow. The integrated architecture, design and enabling technologies, such as dynamic lighting and sound, allows patients to personalize their environment and surround themselves in a relaxing atmosphere that can help calm them, increase efficiency and improve workflow. Patients can select room themes with sound to personalize the environment. This helps patients to feel engaged and provides them with positive distraction and a feeling of control.

With the healthcare challenges that the world is facing today – an aging population, the rise of chronic diseases and resource constraints – the healthcare industry needs solutions that deliver extraordinary diagnostic quality, empowering clinicians to improve clinical confidence and make the right diagnosis in the first scan. With the IQon Spectral CT, the first exam is the right exam – meaning patients can save cost as doctors won’t ask for repeat CT scans. It also means that patients can have a much better experience. It empowers clinicians to improve outcomes — while at the same time achieving the economic objectives of their organizations.

"The best way to show compassion to our patients is to help them economically and this is our way of helping more Filipinos to be more cost-efficient especially in healthcare. Technology such as IQon Spectral CT helps reduce the expenses of the patients and the hospital as it reduces scanning time, meaning a shorter time for diagnosis and decrease in repeat scans,” said Dr. Philip Anthony S.D. Larrazabal, Chairman of CebuDoc Department of Radiology. “This innovation is also part of our commitment to equip our physicians with the right and advanced tools. With this, we hope that more physicians will be enabled to make use of the latest resource that CebuDoc has. In that way, we can help more people and save more lives,” Dr. Yong added.
