Philips launches update to Vital Signs Camera app: now also available for iPhone 4S, Valentine mode and history function added

February 10, 2012

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Today, Royal Philips (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) launches an update to the Vital Signs Camera app for contactless heart rate and breathing rate measurement. This breakthrough technology allows people to measure heart and breathing rates in an easy and unobtrusive way at home*. The app is now also available for iPhone 4S and includes several new features such as two people measurement and a history function. The app can be downloaded from the App Store.

Within 2 weeks after the introduction of the innovative iPad 2 app in November 2011, the app hit the number one position in the health and fitness category of the App Store in over 70 countries. Tens of thousands of people have downloaded the app and Philips has included the most valuable feedback from users in this new version of the app.

iPhone 4S
Next to being available for iPad 2, the app is now also available for iPhone 4S**, which makes it possible to measure your heart rate and breathing rate anytime at work or on the go. You can simply hold the iPhone 4S in your hand and the app will do the contactless measurements within seconds.

2 hearts beating as one

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the latest update to the Vital Signs Camera app includes a unique new feature that allows you to measure the heart rate of two people at the same time on one device. This is the first app in the world able to perform this synchronized measurement.

In response to popular request, the update now features a history function. This function allows users to compare their heart rate and breathing rate with their earlier measurements enabling them to track their fitness levels, for instance. The history shows tables and graphs to compare all measurements over time, a timeline to look at longer-term trends, and gives interesting statistics on the average heartrate and breathing rate per weekday and per hour.
