Semiconductors - CALAMBA

Philips Semiconductors Calamba (PSC) is a state-of-the-art facility for the assembly and testing of Integrated Circuits (IC) located at the Light Industry and Science Park II in Calamba, Laguna. PSC was established in 1998 by the Assembly and Test Organization (ATO) of Philips Semiconductors, and this is the third IC factory of the ATO, in addition to its existing facilities in Thailand and Taiwan.

The plant occupies an area of 85,000 square meters. Construction of the first phase with a floor area of 17,900 square meters was completed in 1999 while the second phase is still under construction.

After a successful test run, production activities started on schedule in January 1999. The plant now operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week in compliance to the company’s commitment to its customers.

PSC is geared for a full capacity of 25 billion pins for the first phase of operations. The first packages the plant produces are plastic QFPs up to 100 pins, with the possibility of extension to other surface mounted devices for mobile phones, computers, audio and video CD and other similar products. The projected volume for the assembly and test activities of the plant would translate to a market value $900 million during this phase.

PSC is the first to showcase the Factory 2000 production lay-out where products are packaged and tested on the same floor through highly flexible flow lines. This concept assures the quality of products through minimum work-in-process and finger touch during manufacturing.

Philips Semiconductors Calamba is envisioned to be a best-in-class facility. It aims to be a benchmark not only within the Philips organization but in the semiconductor industry as a whole with the vision to grow with the people, the society and its business partners. PSC adheres to its mission statement in all its endeavors "To be a world-class high volume IC assembly and test center flexible to market changes through advanced manufacturing, committed teams and continuous improvement."
