University of Cebu Medical Center upgrades imaging technologies

Philips, UCMC lead the way to advanced X-Ray services with new Cath Lab and Mobile C-Arms

December 4, 2014

University of Cebu Medical Center, the first level-4 hospital in Mandaue City, Cebu, has entered a joint venture with Philips to improve patient care in the region.

Philips, a global leader in healthcare, is set to install a catheterization laboratory with state-of-the-art imaging equipment in the medical center's premises. Likewise, Philips will include mobile C-arms to UCMC’s facilities to equip local medical practitioners with the latest imaging technology.

"It is our privilege to work with one of the finest medical institutions in the country," said Malone Guevarra, General Manager of Philips Healthcare. "Our intuitive medical equipment can gear doctors in extending top-class healthcare to all Filipinos."

A catheterization laboratory (or cath lab) is essential in providing accurate x-ray diagnosis to patients. Accordingly, Philips ensures that its AlluraXper FD20—the flagship AdvancedAngiographyX-ray system located at the heart of the cath lab—will work extensively to produce high-quality images upon installation.

The Philips AlluraXper FD20 offers virtually distortion-free and superb image quality during minimally invasive vascular surgery procedures. It has advanced X-ray dose reduction features that lessen radiation exposure for both the patient and the staff.

On the other hand, Philips' mobile C-arm is a surgical system used in performing the most challenging minimally invasive interventions on the patient with confidence. Packed with image intensifiers, this technology provides superb maneuverability, high-quality interface, and advanced fluoroscopic features for seamless workflow in the operating room.

With optimum technology provided by Philips, Dr. Joselito Almendras, one of the top surgeons in Cebu and Medical Director of the UC Medical Center, said that its local healthcare experts are "given more opportunities to execute their medical expertise, allowing patients to meet the quality of life they deserve."

He added: "Philips' top-of-the-line cath lab and mobile C-arm will allow our doctors to perform complexmedical procedures such as treating heart disease, Complex PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention), PACEMAKER insertion for patient with Arrythmia or irregular heartbeat with relative ease. Guided by UCMed's commitment to provide a person-centered and quality clinical care, we complement our doctors' skills and expertise with the finest medical technology. And Philips made this possible."
