Philips, Baguio city gov’t light up Rose Garden

March 12, 2012

Baguio City, Philippines – A new nighttime spectacle awaits residents and visitors of the country’s Summer Capital.

As part of its ongoing efforts to add luster and luminance to the city, the Baguio City Government is once again partnering with world lighting leader Philips, this time to light up the city’s famed Burnham Rose Garden. The Garden will be fully lit up with energy-efficient Philips LED lamps, giving visitors of the landmark a new and enhanced experience, especially at night.

“As a long-time partner of the Baguio City Government in providing the city with meaningful and sustainable lighting solutions, we are thrilled and honored to illuminate the Baguio City’s Rose Garden at the Burnham Park,” remarked Clifford Jison, Professional Sales Channel Manager of Philips Lighting Philippines.

“With the high light intensity and controllable lighting effects and colors of our Philips LEDs, the Garden will now enjoy unprecedented luminance, tourists will enjoy a spectacular view, and the administrators will enjoy the cost benefits of LED technology.”

Baguio City officials, led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, praised the lighting project, with the mayor citing the positive economic impact that the initiative will bring via increased tourist activity and decreased energy costs.

“Philips has long been known for their eco-friendly and energy-efficient lighting technologies and that is why we have partnered with them in previous projects. We are happy to continue this partnership as we take the Burnham Rose Garden to even greater and brighter heights,” Mayor Domogan said.

Prior to the Rose Garden lighting project, Philips had lit up the façade of Baguio City Hall with LED lights as well as donated energy-efficient CFL lamps to the city’s public market.

The City Hall project prompted some observers to liken the newly illuminated façade to the US White House, while vendors at the market expressed gratitude over the energy savings and increased visibility that the CFLs have brought.

With government and business establishments already benefitting directly from Philips lighting technology, illuminating a popular tourist destination was the obvious choice for their next project, according to Jison.

“The Rose Garden is one of the most visited landmarks in Baguio, especially at night. As such, it is crucial that proper and efficient lighting be installed not only to enhance the Rose Garden’s aesthetics, but also to provide a secure and comfortable environment to visitors,” Jison explained.

The lighting of the Rose Garden is part of a full-scale, rehabilitation program facilitated by the local government, with the Burnham landmark now boasting of fully landscaped and flower-laden gardens, ample seats and improved facilities.
